There’s something about a Sunday roast that never gets old. A slow afternoon, a proper plate of roast dinner, plenty of gravy and ideally a pub that makes you want to stay for another drink afterwards.
West London has plenty of contenders, but these are four of our favourites when we’re in the mood for a good Sunday roast.
The Fat Badger
Portobello Road, W10
Right in the heart of Notting Hill, The Fat Badger is a relaxed pub on Portobello Road, with a menu centred around nostalgic British food. It’s a good one to have on the list when you’re looking for somewhere in the area for a leisurely Sunday lunch.
The pub is open from 12pm on Sundays, although the current website doesn’t publish specific roast service times, so it’s worth checking the menu when booking.
£69 for the Sunday three-course set menu.
The Abingdon
Abingdon Road, W8
A Kensington favourite, The Abingdon has been a part of the neighbourhood since 1998 and is still family-run today. The menu is rooted in British cooking, and Sunday roasts are one of the dishes they specifically highlight as a long-standing favourite.
Sunday is a particularly good excuse to settle in for lunch here, with the restaurant's Sunday offering running through the day. Their bar is also open for food until 9pm on Sundays.
From £27.50 per person; vegetarian £24.50.
The Mall Tavern
Palace Gardens Terrace, W8
Just by Notting Hill Gate, The Mall Tavern is a classic West London pub with a lively atmosphere, seasonal British food and importantly, a dedicated Sunday roast menu.
The roast menu includes traditional favourites such as beef, chicken and pork, alongside a vegetarian option, with all the usual Sunday trimmings. Roasts are served on Sundays from 12pm–10.30pm, giving you plenty of time to make an afternoon of it.
£22–£26.50 per person.
The Harwood Arms
Walham Grove, SW6
Tucked away in Fulham, The Harwood Arms is London’s only Michelin-starred pub, with a menu focused on British produce, game and wild food. Their Sunday menu includes a traditional roast served with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, vegetables and cauliflower cheese.
Roasts are available all day, with the Sunday menu served 12pm-8.15pm.
The current menu is £64 for two courses or £79 for three courses, with the roast included on the Sunday menu.
